Jose Refugio Alcantar passed from this life on May 13, 2015 to be with his heavenly father at the age of 76. Jose was born in Brownsville, Texas to Maria Elena Lopez and Refugio Alcantar Jr. He was married to his loving wife of 53 years in Harlingen Texas and raised his family in San Antonio Texas. Jose dedicated his life to loving and caring for his wife and children. He served his country proudly in the Air Force, retired from HEB, was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus and served his Lord at St. Thomas More Catholic Church. He loved his hometown of Brownsville, TX, spending time visiting family in the Valley and especially sitting on the waters edge of South Padre Island. Jose is survived by his wife Maria Alcantar; son Jesse Joe Alcantar and wife Betty; twin daughters, Kathleen Powell and husband Joe and Corrine Alcantar. He was blessed with 5 grandchildren; Bryan Keene, Sara Franco, Joseph Franco, Alexandra Powell, Taylor Powell; and 2 great grandchildren Wesley and Lyla Keene. He is also survived by his sisters Angie Pomerice, Nicolasa Zarate, and Gracie Mejia. Jose was preceded in death by his parents Refugio Alcantar Jr. and Maria Elena Lopez Alcantar, his sister Olga Alcantar, brother Eliseo Alcantar, his mother and father in-law Sarah and Edmundo Porras,
The visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 from 3:00-8:00 PM with the rosary at 6:30 PM at Puente & Sons Funeral Home, 14315 Judson Road, San Antonio, TX 78233. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at 10:00 AM at St. Thomas More Catholic Church at 4411 Moana Drive, San Antonio, TX 78218. Interment will follow by procession to Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery located at 1520 Harry Wurzbach Road, San Antonio, TX 78209.
