Joseph Albert Clarkson, of San Antonio, Texas passed from this life into the hands of our Lord God on Monday, April 26, 2010, after an extended illness at the age of 78. Joe was born to Paul J. Clarkson and Virginia Fischer Clarkson in Ardmore, Oklahoma on August 19, 1931. He was the second youngest of ten children. Joe lived in many places, but considered San Antonio his home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Mary Virginia, and five brothers, Robert, Richard, Rev. John Clarkson, O.M.I., Thomas and Albert.
Joe is survived by his loving and caring wife, Janet Hughes Clarkson of 56 years. He is also survived by his son, Daniel and wife, Sharon; his son David and wife, Teresa; and his daughter Karen and husband Jeff Green. Joe and Janet have eight grandchildren: Jessica, Colin, Lindsay, Sydney, Noah, Christie, Jennifer, and Stephen. They also have eight great-grandchildren: AJ, Cayce, Troy, Shawn, Michael, Natasha, Sidney, and Matthew. In addition, he is survived by his brother, Pete Clarkson, sister, Dorothy and husband Albert DeWinne, sister, Mildred and husband Jim Barger, sister-in-law, Mrs. Richard (Dorothy) Clarkson, cousin, Connie Clarkson as well as other loving relatives.
He graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1949. He was active in many sports and a star football player at the high school. He was a Private First Class in the Army during the Korean Conflict where he earned the Good Conduct medal and the Marksmanship medal. He received an Honorable Discharge in 1956. Joe worked in sales and management and excelled in every aspect. He medically retired in 1986. Despite his condition, he continued to be fun-loving and a positive influence on those around him. He was outgoing and never afraid to start up a conversation with a stranger. Joe was a devoted husband and father who passed on his love of sports and outdoors to his children.
Joe was a member of St. Brigid Catholic Church.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 pm with the rosary to begin at 6:30 pm at Puente Sons Funeral Chapel, Thursday, May 6, 2010. The funeral service will be held at St. Brigid Catholic Church, 6907 Kitchener Road, San Antonio, Texas, 78240, Friday, May 7, 2010 at 11:30 am. with graveside honors at 1:00 pm in the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
