Kathleen Swanberg Syring

Kathleen (Kathy) Louise Swanberg Syring passed away peacefully on November 16, 2024, in San Antonio, TX, due to heart complications. Born on August 26, 1954, in San Antonio, she was adopted as an infant by her loving parents, Orion and Lillian Swanberg, through Lutheran Social Services. 

Along with her parents and siblings, Chuck and Donna, Kathy grew up on a cotton and grain farm near Lyford, TX. She was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church where she was active in the youth group. Kathy was raised in a very loving environment by not only her immediate family, but by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. On most Saturday or Sunday evenings, you would find many of those gathered together playing games and sharing a meal. Kathy attended Sebastion Elementary and continued her education at Lyford Junior High and High School where she graduated in 1972. She pursued higher education; later earning an Associate’s Degree in Office Technology. 

In Seguin TX, while working at a retirement facility, Kathy became good friends with Angie Timmermann, Stephen’s sister. Kathy attended a family dinner at Angie’s home where she met her future husband, Stephen Syring, and they quickly became friends. After a lengthy courtship, Kathy and Stephen were married on October 17, 1981. They made their home in New Braunfels for 12 years before settling in San Antonio in 1993. Kathy was employed by Northside ISD Transportation Division. She enjoyed her 23 year courier, working with special needs children. This was a very fulfilling experience; Kathy made many friends with her coworkers and other relationships. She retired in January of 2021. 

Kathy had a deep love for sports, especially following her nephew Casey’s baseball career and cheering for the UT Longhorns and Lyford High School teams. She adored her dogs, Heidi and Daisy. Later in life, she reconnected with her biological family, forming a cherished bond with her birth mother and siblings. 

Kathy is preceded in death by her parents, Orion and Lillian Swanberg; nephew, Casey Whitmer; in-laws Benjamin and Aurelia Syring; Stephen’s brothers: Nicklaus, Herbert, Benjamin Jr., Joseph and sister, Angie Timmermann. 

She is survived by her devoted husband of 43 years, Stephen Syring; her brother Chuck; sister Donna; brother-in-law Ted Whitmer; Sister in-laws: Virginia Sanchez, Bernadette Sullivent, Martha Syring, and Mary Ellis; brother-in-laws Arthur, Jerome, and Arnold Syring; with numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. 

Kathy loved Jesus and was a kind-hearted and caring individual. Her gentle and sweet nature uplifted everyone around her. She will be deeply missed...
