Kay William Voges

November 24, 1939 — March 13, 2021

Kay William (Bill) Voges of Converse, Texas passed away on March 13, 2021 of natural causes.

Bill was born in Converse on November 24, 1939 to Hilmar and Amy Voges. He was named after Kay Kyser a famous orchestra leader at the time. The Voges family lives on a farm near Converse until 1952. In November of that year, they moved to Converse and owned and operated Converse Grocery Market. Bill graduated from Schertz-Cibolo High School in 1958. He attended Texas Lutheran College for 2 semesters and then transferred to Sam Houston State University. Bill graduated in 1964 with a degree in Agricultural Science and a minor in biology.

Following his graduation, Bill joined the Texas National Guard unit in Seguin and served six years. Bill worked with various firms as a truck driver. Two notable businesses were the former Mayor Jack White of San Antonio and the Pepsi Cola Company in San Antonio operated by his uncle, Alex Prochnow.

Bill loved the outdoors. Growing up, he took part in hunting, fishing and chasing rabbits in a 1946 Jeep on the family farm. The latter was totally illegal, but it was fun jumping terraces at 40 MPH and firing after Jack Rabbits with 16 gauge shot guns. Why no one was ever hurt doing this remains a mystery and a miracle.

Bill also had some unique talents. During his time in high school, Bill was an artist in leather craft. He made personalized western belts for anyone in school. Everyone knew who made each and every belt noted with names centered on the back. Bill had a "green thumb" and continually took plants out of trashcans and brought them back to life. He loved dogs and dogs loved him. If he found a stray, he'd take them home and feed them the best food...better than what he made for himself.

Bill loved really old western movies on TV starring Buster Crabb, Fuzzy Jones, Bob Steele and Hoot Gibson. All we had to do was name one of them and listen to his laughter as he retold a scene from one of those movies. It was great entertainment.

Bill is preceded in death by his father and mother, Hilmar and Amy Voges. He is survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Ken and Linda Bowman Voges, Pete and Ann Vetkoetter Voges; two nephews, Randy Voges and Terre Voges, two nieces, Christy Voges Conder and Audra Voges Adams; five great nieces, Morgan Conder Davis, Peyton Conder, Aspen Adams, Ashley Adams, Jillian Voges; five great nephews; Krystian Voges, Kayce Voges, Preston Voges, Dawson Conder and Caleb Voges.

when Bill was in his teens, his nickname was "Boogie". As he aged, he lost sight during his last years. Now "Boogie" has a new ten with perfect sight and body to care for the plants in Heaven. We are sure Bill is in charge of some garden there and we look forward to seeing his work.
