A fiery woman even at 73, Kazue’s flame burned out on September 12, 2015. She was loved and not alone when she passed. Kazue was born in Wakkanai, Hokkaido, Japan to Mina and Sukezaemon Miura. At the age of 25, she would meet a US Airman by the name of Edmund James Hanrahan II. Edmund unfortunately was stationed in Japan only temporarily. Two years had passed and societal pressure to marry forced Kazue to try to move on. While on a date, Kazue encountered Edmund who had managed to be stationed in Japan once again. Kazue dumped her date on the spot for the foreigner that came back for her. She and Edmund would marry, travel the world together, make one hell of a poker team, start a family, and love each other very much. Kazue and her husband eventually settled in San Antonio, Texas after Edmund retired from the Air Force. The two would stay together until Edmund’s own passing years later. Without skipping a beat, Kazue started a career in the food industry while raising her sons. She would continue bringing joy to those around her through good food and entertaining stories even until the end. While you may never see a building emblazoned with the name “Kazue Hanrahan” nor will you have the chance to be regaled with stories from the lips of this woman, Kazue will be remembered by those that did know her for her intensity, passion, and tough spirit. Kazue is survived by her 2 sons: James Hanrahan and Robert Hanrahan. She has 5 sisters and 2 brothers living in Japan. Interment will be held at Ft. Sam Houston at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please take your mother to dinner or enjoy a good meal like Kazue would have wanted you to.
