Kevin Scott Messenger entered into eternal rest on April 1, 2013 at the age of 49. Kevin was born on July 31, 1963 at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs to the late Chief Master Sergeant James Franklin Messenger and Diane Weyer Messenger. He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Karl and Rosella Messenger and maternal grandparents Camilla Louise Weyer Green and Harry Meryl Weyer. Kevin’s siblings include Victor Karl (deceased) and Janet Lynn Messenger Spurlock and husband Tim. He is survived by numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Kevin graduated in the top 10 from East Central High School in 1981, where he was selected Most Likely to Succeed and was on the all-district Golf team. After high school, Kevin received a degree in Economics from Texas AM University in 1985, followed by an Masters degree in Finance from UTSA in 1992. His first job was at Employers Insurance, where he made many life-long friends. His professional network expanded when Kevin accepted a position at the HEB corporate office in the Risk Management department in 1988, where he remained until 2004. Throughout his employment with HEB, he led his team in reaching out creatively in the approach to Risk Management within the retail grocery industry. He initiated the development and implementation of a number of programs which have contributed to the reduction of costs in all areas of the company. Kevin was a chief contributor and board member of the Greater Kelly Development Corporation, and was an adjunct professor at St. Mary’s University. Later, Kevin was the CFO at Lewis Crane in Dallas for five years. Kevin touched the lives of countless people as mentor and friend and all were affected by his smile, his energy, and his generosity. Kevin married his high school sweetheart Karen Maha Mullen in 1987 where they had two sons: Zachary Kyle and Grant Karl, his pride and joy. He shared his love of the outdoors and sports with his sons and his friends often. Favorite hobbies included fishing, snow skiing, golfing, hunting, and time on the waterfront. Kevin’s dear friends Tracey Krause and her daughters, Neal Butler, Greg Nadeau, and Kaitlin Willett were instrumental in sharing his life experiences the last decade. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for memorials be sent in honor of Kevin to the Bank Of America Account #586031061176. Special thanks to the nurses and doctors at the Methodist Specialty and Transplant Hospital for their wonderful care and attention to Kevin and his family.
