Leandra always saw herself as a “daddy’s girl” and followed in her mother’s footsteps as “happy-go-lucky”. But, anyone who knew her can tell you she was a firecracker and always known to speak her mind. During her early years, Leandra held odd jobs until she got married in August of 1958 and shortly thereafter had the opportunity to stay home and raise their children. Always placing family first, in 1981 she chose to return to work. Leandra began her employment as a food service assistant at NEISD until retiring in 1993. She truly enjoyed working for the district. In fact, during her time at Theodore Roosevelt High school she viewed the children as her own; however, her children and grandchildren meant everything to her. Over the years she became more and more involved in the lives and activities of each one and never missed an opportunity to see them perform. Attending events like baseball, football, basketball, dance, choir and marching band she created a life bursting with joyful memories cheering for each one with great pride as only a parent can.
One thing you had to love about Leandra is that although her wardrobe was filled with countless TR, MAC, SPURS and COWBOYS gear, she always made time for a day at the mall to shop for must have deals on clothes, handbags, accessories and her infamous shoe collection. With that said, what we will all miss about her the most is watching her twirl around the dance floor every chance she got. There was nothing like a polka or an “oldie but goodie” to get her on her feet.
Our mother will be remembered by many in their own way, but for us it will be her presence. The gentle kiss on each check coupled with a tight hug and whispering, “Mommy always loves you, don’t forget that”. Well, “Mommy, I love you too” and things will never be the same now that you are gone; Godspeed.
