Leona Donley Thornton

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of our cherished Leona Mae Thornton who was called to rest June 1st 2020. Leona is now happily with her beloved husband Fred Thornton of 64 years. Whom they had three children Sharon, Howard and David. Leona was the grandmother of many grandchildren Elishia, Lauren, Tiffany, Ashlan, Andrew and Nathaniel. And also her very special great grandchildren Mikal, Sofia, Francisco and Aveline Sue Burns. Leona had an abundance for life that shined in everything she did. She deeply loved her family and made sure to show it regularly. Leona was born July 21st 1930 in Cuyahoga Falls Ohio to her parents Jennie & William Donely. She later married her devoted husband Fred Thornton. Leona and Fred traveled the world together and spent many years in Spain then finally making their way back home to San Antonio. Leona was more than just a grandmother to her grandchildren; she nearly raised half of them and also spent 25 years serving as a volunteer Blue Bird at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio. Leona was a very dedicated San Antonio Spurs fan and was sure to arrange her daily schedule to see each game. She also enjoyed cooking, gardening and taking care of her daily responsibilities. The memories that our entire family have can never be forgotten nor replaced. Leona had such a delicate heart and deep soul for love and affection for everyone she encountered. She touched us all and forever placed her footprint of memories that we will cherish forever.

On Monday, June 8th Leona will be laid to rest in a private ceremony amongst her closest family members.
