Linda Thacker, 61, of Port Arthur, passed away on Sunday, January 22, 2023 at 3:45 PM at her residence in San Antonio, with her loving daughters by her side.
Linda Faye Thacker was born on November 13, 1961 in Port Arthur, Texas to Mary Kathleen Czaja Castille and Allen Joseph Castille. As the middle child of eleven children, she grew up surrounded by the connection and tradition of family. After graduating from Thomas Jefferson High School, she went on to join the military on June 24, 1980. At eighteen years old and for twenty years onward, she faithfully served our country in the United States Air Force, earning honors and eventually retiring as a Master Sergeant on October 1, 2000.
Her military career that initially started as a mechanic repairing teletype machines– something you’d now only see in museums– led to working on computers as technology began to advance, a digital progression she witnessed firsthand as one of the few women in her field at the time. She was mechanically minded, detail oriented, and had an ironclad work ethic. During
her years of service, she also chose to further her education and graduated with an Associates of Science in Electronic Systems Technology from the Community College of the Air Force.
Not only a veteran, she was also a mother of three daughters, and raised them single handedly with humor, tough love, the wisdom of discipline, a heavy dose of common sense, and a grain of salt. They will forever appreciate her hard work and all that she did for them.
In 2005, she became a born again Christian and in 2007 began attending Believers Fellowship, becoming a member in 2008. Her love for the Lord transformed all areas of her life, and her faith is what she wishes to be remembered by. Her favorite gospel was John, and she consistently encouraged others to read it.
Outspoken and witty, she readily shared advice and prayed for the salvation of others, all from the intention of compassion. She had a big heart for animals, fostering and adopting many pets over the years. She also enjoyed visiting the beach, going on hikes, celebrating holiday traditions, listening to music, and seeing the roses in the summer at the Botanical Gardens.
Now she walks with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, in perfect comfort and the peace of eternity.
Survivors include her children, Laura Thacker, Samantha Thacker, and Jessica Thacker. Her siblings Elaine Kreusel and her husband Tim, Elizabeth Maddox, Barbara Castille and partner Theresa, Velma Truss and husband Elton, Kathy Yeager and husband Lee, Lawrence Castille and wife Julie, Jackie McMillan and husband John, Allen Castille, Jr. and Michael Castille and his partner Marlon.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents Kathleen and Allen Castille; and brother, Gary Castille.
