Lindal “Ted” (Theodore) Van Meter Jr was born on July 25, 1947, in Seminole, Texas. He passed away peacefully at home with his wife Laura by his side on September 6, 2024, after a long illness with Alzheimer’s and a very sudden decline in his health. Ted was 77 years of age.

Ted is survived by his loving wife A. Laura Gallegos-Van Meter, sons Brandon Van Meter (Karen Ann King), Dylan Van Meter (Kelly Van Meter), stepson James A. Lopez Jr, & stepdaughter Iman Gressier, (Francois Gressier). Ted is also survived by his grandchildren Maren & Matthew Van Meter, Nicolas & Cecilia Gressier, as well as his beloved dog Oliver that he took on walks every morning for many years. Ted also had extended family, friends, and neighbors and former coworkers that will miss him dearly. Ted is preceded in death by his father Lindal Theodore Van Meter and his mother Minnie Van Meter, and his beloved sister Linda Van Meter Yates.

Ted enjoyed the outdoors immensely. He was an avid fisherman and loved to camp. He lived for the yearly spawn of the white bass at Lake Limestone. He could fish for hours on end. Ted also loved to birdwatch and could identify a multitude of birds. He fed “his” birds everyday never to forget them. Gardening was also another of his enjoyments. He knew what every flower was and could name any one he saw while on a walk. Ted had a large repertoire of music that filled every room in the house. His favorite, however, was Blues music. You could often find him sitting on the deck with music playing, cigar burning in one hand, and his favorite IPA beer in the other. Ted will be incredibly missed by all those that loved him.

A memorial service honoring Ted Van Meter will be held at Ft. Sam Houston Cemetery, Shelter 4, on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at 10:45am
