Lois June (Hall) Blanton, 77, died Wednesday morning, September 9, 2020 at her home in San Antonio, TX after a long battle with lung and heart disease .She was born in Hazen, AR, on September 20, 1942 to Buford and Ellen R. Hall. Lois grew up on the family farm in Hallville where she learned to hunt, fish, and ride horses. She was the only girl of three children, and her father said Lois was the “only son” he ever had. She loved to have fun, drive fast, dance and play in the county band she formed. When the Hall family opened a small grocery store on Main St. in Stuttgart, AR called “The Ok Market”, you would find Lois doing her part working behind the check-out counter, running the cash register.
Lois loved to cook, clean, and to tell a good ghost story. Not much of anything scared her, except for spiders. She was as comfortable in the kitchen as she was walking in the graveyard at night. Lois got her love of cooking from her mother, but her passion for making food look beautiful came from “looking” at her mother’s cooking which usually resembled having been in an earthquake. Lois had a strong mathematical mind and could do complex math problems in her head. She attended business school in Little Rock. Besides her bright mind, Lois was a beauty and her smile would light up a room. Her mother imagined her as a model and enrolled her in beauty school. But Lois decided modeling was not for her; she was more comfortable in the kitchen and out in the woods than walking on a runway.
Lois decided to leave Arkansas seek her future elsewhere and moved to Phoenix, Arizona. There she met and married Glen L. Blanton and began her life as a full-time wife and mother. Lois had 5 children (2 girls, 3 boys) and did her best to provide a loving home for them. She was an avid storyteller and wrote poetry about life’s joys and hardships that would give you goose bumps. Life took Lois all over the country and along the way she had the opportunity to meet many famous people like Conway Twitty and Elvis Presley. She would tell stories of her adventures to anyone who would listen, leaving them laughing, crying, and in awe of her life experiences. It was never a dull moment when Lois was talking.
After her divorce, she moved into the workforce as a single parent, proving to be an excellent hardworking employee and leader. Lois showed compassion and demonstrated true authenticity in everything she did. She retired after a long career with the Hurst, Euless, Bedford Unified School District in Bedford, TX, and spent her time between reading the bible and helping her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and the many friends and/or various strangers she met along the way. To Lois, no one was a stranger, and she never turned a needy person away empty handed.
Lois was a complex woman, with a strong will, and a strict idea of what is right, and yet a large heart full of love and compassion. Her love of God was very apparent in her life, and she could talk your ears off on anything biblical. Her personality was dynamic; it was empathetic and contagious, but also very ecliptic. She was a woman to be reckoned with, and to know her was a real gift from God. If she loved you, she loved you with her whole being. Lois will be missed greatly, and the love she leaves behind in her family, friends and strangers she met along the way, will go on shining brightly as a testament of God’s present in this, sometime dark time we live in. If you loved Lois, honor her memory by being the best person you can be everyday.
