Lula Mae ‘Lu’ Marlow was born April 24, 1929, and passed away on April 2, 2019, in San Antonio, Texas, at the age of 89. Lula Mae was born to Irma B and Milton J (Mutt) Hoeneke in Kirby, Texas. She was preceded in death by many loved ones whose lives ended too soon: husband, Billy D Marlow who died in 1959; son, Thomas J Marlow; brother and sister-in-law, Elroy and Florence Hoeneke; brother-in-law, Lemuel Skaggs. She is survived by her daughters, Viki, and husband, Jeff Whitner; and Kim and husband, Joseph Pena; son, Ross Marlow; daughter-in-law, Mary Ellen Marlow; sister, Kay Hoeneke Skaggs; grandchildren, Tiffani, Joseph II, Kasey, Christopher, Courtney, Aaron, Kristin, Chase, Austynn, Bryan, and Benjamin; 14 great grandchildren; niece, Sandra Skaggs and nephew, Brian Skaggs. Lula Mae attended Kirby schools where she excelled and completed 10 grades in 8 years. She attended Breckenridge High School for her Junior and Senior years where she was a member of the Purple Jackets. She graduated in May 1945. Soon after, she started working civil service in Procurement at Randolph Air Force Base. Lu lived in Scotland, The Philippines, and Washington DC as part of Air Force assignments. In 1975, she settled back in Kirby which was always home. Lu enjoyed dancing, school reunions, and being with family and friends. She spent most of her adult life caring for her loved ones. One of her special qualities was the way she loved her grandchildren. She was dearly loved by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mom/Nana will be affectionately remembered and greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be given to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), National Institute of Mental Health or a charity of choice.
