Manuel Garcia Garcia M.D.

Manuel de Jesus Garcia Garcia M.D. passed away on Friday, March 5, 2021 in San Antonio, Texas of natural causes.

Born in Nuevo Laredo, Tamps., MX on January 1, 1933, he was the oldest child of Manuel Garcia and Beatriz Garcia de Garcia.

He was preceded in death by his youngest daughter Gabriela Garcia Thomas M.D. (Stuart Thomas M.D.) and his sister Beatriz Garcia de Garcia and brother-in-law Ramiro Garcia.

Dr. Garcia was a descendent of pioneer families from northern Mexico and south Texas. He was the first member of his family to finish high school. He went on to medical school at the Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon in Monterrey, MX. He completed a year of internship in Chicago, Ill. which was followed by a Radiology residency at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Houston, TX. He also completed nuclear medicine training at M.D. Anderson Hospital in Houston, TX.

In 1957, he married fellow medical school graduate Dra. Maria del Rosario Dominguez in Elgin, Ill. She worked with her husband running two medical practices on both sides of the Rio Grande. During his medical career he practiced radiology at Mercy Hospital and also had a private practice in Laredo as well as a private practice in Nuevo Laredo. Later in his career, he worked at Doctor’s Hospital in Laredo, later on returning to work at Mercy Center in Laredo.

He was known as one of the best radiologists in the twin cities of Laredo and Nuevo Laredo. His work ethic and stamina were phenomenal, working many late hours and weekends. Doctors would call him for consultations in complicated cases at all times of the day, where he would always promptly respond and advise. He was highly intelligent with an incredible memory. He was also a strong believer in education, whether formally or informally. He loved books and had a large collection in different subjects. He greatly enjoyed his family and friends’ achievements and successes.

He loved to work, read, listen to music and be with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was very generous to his family, extended family members and friends. He was always ready to help people without asking anything in return, just their friendship. He was a mentor and a teacher to x-ray technicians and other radiology staff throughout his career. His other passion was ranching and his cattle. His Sundays were usually spent at the ranch to help with chores.

He is survived by his wife Rosario of 64 years, his brothers Leopoldo (Esperanza) Garcia Garcia, Francisco (Blanca) Garcia Garcia M.D., and Jose Valeriano (Laurentina) Garcia Garcia. He is also survived by his children Beatriz (Michael Stamps M.D.) Stamps M.D., Manuel D. Garcia Atty, Rosario (Quentin) Hassan, and son-in-law Stuart Thomas M.D.: Grandchildren: Steven (Jennifer) Stamps Atty., William Edward Stamps, David Stamps M.D., Andrew (Dagny) Hassan, Elizabeth Hassan, Sean Hassan, Harry Thomas and William Thomas. Great granddaughters Adelaide and Kira. Also, numerous cousins, nephews and nieces.

A grateful thank you to all the people who gave him compassionate and excellent care these past years in San Antonio.

Due to Covid limitations, internment will be a private service. A remembrance Mass and Celebration of his Life will be held in Laredo, TX at a future date.

Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in San Antonio.
