Manuela “Meme” Solis Tovar, 78, of San Antonio, passed away peacefully surrounded by her children and grandchildren on February 20, 2021.Manuela was born on April 17, 1942 in San Antonio, Tx to Genaro and Elena Solis. She married Fidencio (Lencho) Tovar Jr. on December 29, 1959in San Antonio Tx. Meme was blessed with 5 children. Earlier in her life, Meme was a migrant going to Michigan to work in sugar beet fields and picking cherries in Hart Michigan where she met and fell in love with Lencho. Later she worked many jobs including Bay Valley golf course, server at JimsRestaurant where she worked for 8 years alongside her daughter Sylvia. Her last job before retiring was as a security guard for Allied Security where she worked for 15 years. Her brother-in-law Pat affectionally named her Barney Fife. A proud moment in her life was receiving her GED at the age of 42. She lived in Michigan for a large part of her life eventually ending up in Saginaw but she always looked forward to trips back to what she considered her second home. She loved the summers in Michigan. She especially enjoyed camping, the lakes and all of the greenery and going to garage sales and flea markets. She would say it reminded her of younger days and times of being with Lencho. She loved to evangelize, always helping others strengthen their faith in God. She became a member of the Cursillo movement. She was an active memberof La Union Civica of Saginaw a Latino community organization where she helped with fund raisers and local festivities. She was a parishioner and member of the church choir at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church Bay City, MI., where she was also the co-leader of a bible study group. Her faith was acentral part of her life. She loved Jesus and always encouraged her family to have a strong faith in God. After moving back to San Antonio to care for her parents, she became a member of Rock of Revelations Church where her Brother Jimmy Solis is Pastor. Manuela is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Fidencio, her granddaughter Sandra Inez Tovar, her brothers, Genaro Solis Jr., Francisco Solis and Gilberto Solis, and son in-law Sonny Hernandez.
Manuela is survived by her children, Lorenzo Tovar (Teresa), Belinda Hernandez, Sylvia Gonzales (Ramiro), Doris Gonzales (Reynaldo) and Fidencio Tovar (Melanie), 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.Surviving siblings are Gloria, Lillie, Alvina, Mary, Edwardo (Walo) Jimmy, Corina, Benjamin (Benny), and Martha. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Gina Powell, Celia Tovar-Petty, Eric Ramiro, and Rey Michael Gonzales, Jonathan and Joel Tovar.Visitation will be from 2-6 pm on Thursday, March 4, 2021.
