Marcelino Gómez, Jr., age 47, of San Antonio, Texas passed away on Tuesday, February 26, 2013, after a battle with cancer. Marcelino was born and raised in Laredo, Texas, and graduated from Martin High School in 1983. After receiving his Bachelor in Education and Sociology from TAMIU in Laredo, he moved to San Antonio where he worked with Judson I.S.D. at Kitty Hawk Middle School as an eighth grade reading teacher. He eventually obtained his Master in Bilingual Bicultural Studies from UTSA in San Antonio. Marcelino is survived by his wife Rose Ann Solis, mother Bertha Inocencio Gómez, father Marcelino Gómez, Sr., sister Cynthia Berta Gómez, sister Laura Gómez-Horton, brother-in-law Marcus Horton, nephew Eduardo Gómez-Horton, in laws Eduardo and Linda Solis, sister and brother-in-law Ginette and Bruno Huizar, nephews Jeremy, Aidan, and Sophia Huizar, brother and sister-in-law Eduardo and Janie Solis Jr., and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He is preceded in death by a sister and both maternal and paternal grandparents and several aunts and uncles. Viewing will be Saturday, March 2 at 10:00am at Puente and Sons Funeral Home, 14315 Judson Road in San Antonio followed by a mass at St. Monica’s Catholic Church, 501 North Street in Converse at 1:00pm. He will be cremated and placed to rest at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, family requests donations be made to American Cancer Society.
