Maria Magdalena Stadlmair Meredith
January 7, 1930 - September 12, 2020
Maria M. Meredith was born on January 7, 1930, in Kuhbach, Bavaria, Germany. She passed away peacefully on September 12, 2020. A memorial service will be held at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery, joining her husband of 22 years, Robert E. Meredith, in eternal rest.
Mom (Leni to her friends and family) she was the 6th of 11 children born to Kreszenz Einmuller and Josef Stadlmair.
She experienced WWII as a teenager working for her uncle and aunt. Her aunt requested her to work as a shop girl, so she would not have to join the Nazi Youth. Her family knew that the ruling evil would end when they tried to take God out of the lives of the people and replace it with an evil ideology.
She met my dad, Robert Earl Meredith (d. 1979) in 1957, when he and a few of his GI buddies crashed a family birthday party for her brother in Augsburg, Germany, and decided to stick around to meet the petite brunette. They were married months later and had 2 children, Lorey, and Robert L. Over the 22 years they were married they traveled to many cities in Europe and the U.S., being stationed in Germany 3 times, so Mom could be with her family. They settled in San Antonio, TX, because Mom loved the warm weather and the friendly people.
Mom loved dancing and music. She and her friends would go dancing at least once a week years after my Dad passed. She loved watching The Lawrence Welk show every Saturday night and dancing in the living room to the walzes, polkas, and tangoes. Gardening and meeting with friends at McDonald’s for coffee to solve the world’s problems was another activity she looked forward to twice a week. She loved and supported her children throughout her life. Her children secretly referred to her as the Little General, because she ruled the family like a commander, especially since Dad had 3 tours in Korea/Vietnam, and she needed to keep the home front going.
Mom was a devout Catholic and went to morning mass twice a week. She would have a long prayer list and let people know they were being prayed for. Her daughter, Lorey, would like to personally thank Encompass Hospice for coming to her aid with Mom’s care, especially, Kimberly, Amber and Sylvia, and also the neighbors and friends who supported her emotionally, and assisted in watching over Mom when the need arose.
Mom will be greatly missed by family in Germany and Illinois, and numerous friends. We will all eventually share in the Secret that she now knows. The Secret being the Glory of Eternal Life with Christ.
In lieu of flowers please donate to Mom’s favorite charity, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
