Alice Romero

March 10, 1926 — January 1, 2025

Maria Alicia (Alice) Romero was received by the Lord with her daughter by her side, peacefully on January 1, 2025 at the age of 98 due to complications of Alzheimer’s. Alice was born on March 10, 1926 to Diego and Candelaria Gonzales in San Antonio, TX. She was the oldest of their 5 children and helped raise her youngest brother and sister.

Alice was a graduate of Fox Tech High School and went onto San Antonio College for 2 yrs. She began work at W.T. Grants at age 16 and ended 16 yrs later as district sales manager. She married her oldest brother’s best friend, Silveno Ruben Romero, her dream man, in 1952. Six years later in 1958, they welcomed their only daughter, Brenda, a miracle child. A serious car accident injury had threatened any pregnancy.

After her daughter was born, she became very active in her daughter’s schooling and was an avid PTA member while her daughter was attending St. Ann’s Catholic School. She was member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church since 1953.

Alice and her husband Ruben belonged to several social clubs where she enjoyed socializing and dancing every weekend. She was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis when she was 42 yr sold which affected her ankles and feet for the rest of her life. Yet, that didn’t stop her from dancing until her husband suddenly passed away at age 66. That same year, she was given a “son” she always wanted when her beloved Brenda married Christian in late 1996. One of her other activities was being involved with the Regina Guild as spiritual director and active participant. Every life was important to her, including the unborn, and she made every effort to provide support to unwed pregnant girls.

Alice is survived by her youngest brother, Richard V. Gonzales II, her sister-in-law, Aurora Ybarra, brother-in-law, Johnny P. Romero, daughter, Brenda and husband, Christian, 2 step- daughters, 4 step-grandchildren & numerous nieces / nephews & grand nieces / nephews & great-grand nieces / nephews.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in remembrance of Alice to the Alzheimer’s Association, San Antonio & South Texas Chapter, 10223 McAllister Freeway Suite 100, San Antonio, TX 78216.
