Mary Louise Buffington

d. January 22, 2021

On January 22nd, 2021, the Lord called home one of His precious and faithful servants, Mary Louise Buffington. Mary was born July 7th, 1924 in Beaumont, TX to Richard Walker Haynes & Mary Louise Saunders Haynes. Mary was the second youngest of eight children: Walker Haynes, Margaret (Maggie) Daniels, Richard Haynes, Livie Ingram, Florence Vining, and Robert Haynes. On Jan 6th, 1942, she married the love of her life and devoted 53 years to her husband, Charlie R Buffington. Together they had two children, Sue Coy and Charles R Buffington. The adventure didn’t stop there. Being a wife of an Army Officer, they moved all over: Galveston, TX, Abilene, TX, Galveston, TX, St. Louis, MO, Yokohama, Japan, St. Louis, MO, Anchorage, AK, New York City, NY, Alexandria, VA, and finally settling in San Antonio, TX in 1957. Mary was a resilient woman. Having grown up during the Great Depression, she knew how to stretch a dollar and make a delicious homecooked meal with very little. She was full of wit, humor, and love. She was a humble woman that loved her family and most of all loved her Lord, Jesus Christ. There are souls in heaven because of her willingness to share the Love of Christ. She was our family historian and such a great story teller, often sharing stories of her memories and the genealogy that had been passed down through her family. She was also kind and giving. She was always willing to welcome anyone into her home and treat them as family. Mary will be missed by so many, but our hearts rejoice knowing she is smiling down on us from heaven. Besides being a wife, a mother, a sister, a sister-in-law, an aunt, and a friend, she was a grandmother to 6 grandchildren, a great-grandmother to 10 great-grandchildren who all affectionately called her Mimi.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents, siblings, her husband, her son-in-law Vincent Coy and grandchild Mary Beth Buffington. She is survived by her daughter, Sue Coy, her son, Charles R Buffington and his wife Janet Buffington. Grandchildren Ryan Coy and his family Taylor, Tori, and Taralyn, Kristin Buffington and her son Zachary Edgerton, Kathy Buffington and her family Christopher and Katelyn, Rick Buffington and his wife Amy and children Maddie and Ella, Jesse Robinson, and Mary Beth Buffington’s two son’s Richard Bargaleski and Gabriel Buffington. In addition to numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Let us celebrate the life and legacy that Mary imprinted on our hearts and souls. Joshua 24:15 says “But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD”. Mary lived this verse to the fullest. As the Lord said in Matthew 25:23 “Well done, good and faithful servant!... Come share in your master’s happiness”
