Mary Ellen Nieto

Our beloved Mary Ellen Nieto, 84, of San Antonio went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 13, 2023. She was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt.

She was born in Sweetwater, TX on June 16, 1939, where she spent most of her life. As the eldest child, she helped to take care of her younger siblings. She had a gentle manner, a humble spirit, and led a life of service to others. Always a dedicated worker, she worked for many years in housekeeping services at Simmons Memorial Hospital and the Sweetwater Independent School District.

She attended Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Sweetwater where she was a member of the church choir, the Daughters of Mary apostolate, and the Guadalupanas Society. She married Sergio Nieto, and they were happily married for 50 years. Mary dedicated herself to taking care of her family and raising her two daughters. She enjoyed music, cooking, and hosting family and friends in her home on special occasions.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dionicio and Francisca Rangel, her twin sister Maria de Jesus (Jessica) Rangel, and two brothers, Dionisio Rangel, Jr. and Juan Rangel, all of Sweetwater, TX. She is survived by her husband, Sergio Nieto, her two daughters Dr. Mary Woodhead and Lupe Puente, her son in laws Robert Woodhead and Efraim Puente, six grandchildren, Tristen Nieto, Ryan Petty, Katelynn Puente, Ivy Puente, Eric Puente and Isaac Puente, all of San Antonio, two sisters, Rachel Guerrero of Sachse, TX and Lucy Herrera of Canyon, TX, four nieces, and four nephews.

Viewing will be on Monday, December 18^th, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with Rosary starting at 6:30 p.m. at Puente and Sons Funeral Home, 14315 Judson Rd., San Antonio, TX. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, December 19^th, with Mass starting at 10:00 a.m. at St. Jose Luis Sanchez del Rio Catholic Church, 21140 Gathering Oak, San Antonio, TX. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in San Antonio, TX.
