Matilda Gonzales

March 14, 1927 — July 5, 2018

Matilda (Teresa or Tere) Gonzales passed away on July 5th 2018 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. She was born in Laredo, TX on March 14th, 1927 to Matiana and Juan B Gomez.
She leaves behind her husband of 64 years, Retired Army SP6 Anthony Sierra Gonzales, loving daughters’ Laura Lorraine Miller and husband Andy and Antoinette Pierce and late husband Joseph Pierce. Grandsons William (Billy) Deben, Maurice Robert (Bobby) Miller, grand-daughter Heidi Miller Crone and husband Phil Crone and great-grandsons Anthony Renee Gonzales and Adrian Gabriel Gonzales.
She also leaves behind her sisters, Josefina (Josie) Cortes, Socorro (Mary) Guzman husband Albert, Matias (Matt) Gomez and wife Clara, plus many numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
She was preceded in death by her parents Matiana Cuellar Gomez and Juan Barrera Gomez, daughter Terri Deben, and grand-daughter Heather Gonzales.
Mom and/or Oma was the light of our lives, she loved making enchiladas and sugar cookies and her cucumber jello salad plus chicken salad sandwiches we seemed to have at our gathering of baby or bridal showers (we learned from the best) always a hit with her jokes and enjoyed going to and playing Bingo especially with her friend Blanca. She also loved attending the Cowboy breakfast during Rodeo time in San Antonio and enjoyed the card game of Solitaire. She loved mariachi’s when they played the song Las Mananita’s at Mi Tierra restaurant where she enjoyed dining occasionally.
In her later years she enjoyed taking care of and spending time with her little twins (great-grandsons) Anthony and Adrian whom she so dearly loved.
When she was employed at Sears Roebuck we looked forward to her coming home from work because she would always bring the orange slice candies or the maple candies in the little white bags we knew had goodies.
She made sure she provided for our family with attention, care and love and we will never forget this. We will miss you Mom but like you used to say “Forever in our Hearts” .
