Michael Carl Hughes, affectionately known as Mike, was born on January 10, 1953, in Dallas, Texas. Mike peacefully departed this world on February 17, 2025, in Seguin, Texas, leaving behind a legacy rooted in love, craftsmanship, and cherished memories.

Throughout his career, Mike made his mark in the custom home building contractor and maintenance industries. His dedication and expertise garnered him respect within the field. In recent years, he transitioned into specializing in engine and body repair of muscle cars, becoming a well-known figure among muscle car enthusiasts. His hands worked tirelessly, shaping metal and reviving aging machinery, a craft he continued to pursue with fervor until July 2024.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Mike's most significant source of pride was his family. He reveled in being a father and grandfather, and he wore those titles with honor. His affection for his children and grandchildren painted the fabric of his life with vibrant colors, filling it with joy and laughter. The traditions he started with the younger generations are gems that will forever sparkle in their hearts. He was well-known for giving the first generations of children he encountered a one-dollar bill and a nickel; a sweet gesture that later morphed into a dollar and a quarter for the next generation, adapting to the whims of inflation but always steeped in love.

Mike's passions extended beyond his career. He had an abiding love for Trans Ams, especially his prized 1978 Smoking and the Bandit model, which became a symbol of adventure and excitement. It was in this car that he taught his sister, along with many nephews and nieces, to drive, creating countless joyful memories infused with laughter and skill under the open sky.

In addition to his vocational talents and familial joys, Mike proudly served in the United States Army for four years, earning the National Defense Service Medal—a testament to his commitment to his country and community.

As a resident of Waco, Texas for 45 years, Mike was a familiar and beloved face—a man known not just for his craftsmanship but for his kind spirit and approachable nature.

Mike is preceded in death by his parents, Elouise and Emmett B Hughes; and sister, Carol Littlefield.

He is survived by his children, Carla Hughes, Daphne Crowston (Michael), Colby Lee Hughes; Ex-wife, Judy Hughes; Grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Michaela Crowston, Kai and Avery, Kaden Crowston, Kyla Crowston; siblings, Rocky Hughes, Ron Hughes (Polly), Teresa Emerson, Tracie Dore; along with 13 nephews and nieces, 20 great nephews/nieces, and 7 great-great nephews/nieces.

Though he has left this physical world, Mike’s considerable impact will resonate with those he touched. He leaves behind an indelible mark etched in the heart of every family member and friend fortunate enough to know him. In their minds, the laughter, lessons, and love he dispensed will continue to echo, reminding them of the warmth and dedication he embodied throughout his life. Mike may have departed, but his spirit will live on in the stories shared, the memories cherished, and the lives enriched by his presence.
