Michael Joseph Hernandez

Michael Joseph Hernandez went into the arms of the Lord on June 6, 2013 at the age of 60. He was an American patriot and served in the Coast Guard in the early 1970’s. Michael was an award winning poet and was acclaimed for his poem, “Scape Goat”. He won the Golden Poet Award in 1989 and 1990. He was inaugurated into the Who’s Who of Poetry. He was very involved with his family and doted on his grandchildren. Michael enjoyed watching his favorite teams the Redskins and Spurs. He leaves behind his loving wife of 34 years, Sylvia Bustamante Hernandez; mother-in-law, Inocencia Bustamante; son, Michael Jeremiah (Bernice) Hernandez; daughters, Ruth Ann and Rachel Anne (Javier Garcia) Hernandez; brothers, Steven and John Hernandez; brother-in-law, Joe Bustamante; sisters, Lenora, Belinda, Mary, Valerie, Cecilia, and Elizabeth; seven grandchildren, Abel, Blaze, Joshua, Javier, Jr., Michael, John Paul and Kagome; nieces, Sabrina, Nicole and Jocelyn; and nephews, David and Elias Tristan. He will be forever in our hearts and the beautiful memories he made with us will last forever. SCAPEGOAT Never a word from His mouth He spoke, Tho’ blood streamed down after every stroke. Salvation for us in His death revealed, And by His stripes, we are healed. Tho’ innocent in front of men He stood, In His place they released a hood; He drank the full measure of our cup, So after His death in our hearts He could sup. On the cross His life He gave, A thief to His right He also forgave. Hanging in pain as He slowly diminished, He cried to His Father “It is Finished.” The Father was pleased to bruise His Son, So that all who believed could be won.
