Miguel S. Calzada, Sr. also known as Mike, loving father, brother, uncle, grandpa, and friend, passed away March 1st, 2022, at the age of 79.
Miguel was born in San Antonio, Texas to Vicente and Francisca Patlan Calzada on August 11, 1942.
Mike was a staple in his community. Everyone knew who he was in his ‘barrio’ of Beacon Hill. Mike was a selfless, caring person who helped anyone who came his way. He didn’t judge the type of person you were or your character. If he could help you, he did. Mike had stories. Many stories. From his younger years to now. We learned a lot from his childhood and how he worked so hard from a very young age to help support his family. He told many stories of his late wife Guadalupe, how they met and the memories they made along the way. Those memories also included the fun and crazy times he had with his wifes brothers Roger, Ruben, Ricardo and the late Raul and Jesse Gonzalez. You may have heard these stories once or twice. Maybe more times than that. Mike also had jokes. If you needed a laugh, he would make that happen….even when you didn’t need the laugh. One of his recent hobbies included flirting with his nurses. He taught us not to take life too seriously and was always in good spirits.
Mike had many friends, and had no problems making new ones along the way. We thank all of you for spending time with him and looking out for him through the years. To those who played a role in the ‘Save Miguel’s Home’ project, a special thanks to
you for all of your efforts.
Mike will be remembered as a funny, smart, hard-working man and a Hero to many. We will always remember his sweet spirit. He was a man of faith who prayed daily for his family. He will always hold a special place in our lives, full of memories of how he has shaped our futures and guided us through thick and thin. It gives us peace that he is now reunited with his wife, Guadalupe, daughter Susan, and his sister Lucy whom he missed dearly.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Guadalupe G. Calzada, daughter Susan F. Calzada, sister Lucy F. Gonzales, half brother Jesus (Chanclon) Patlan and half sister Blasita Calzada Patlan. He is survived by his sons Michael Calzada Jr. (wife Patricia), Albert Calzada (wife Anabel), and David Calzada (wife Melissa),14 Grandchildren Charlene Vasquez (husband David), Cassandra Pepper, Michelle Franco (husband Paul), Janelle Calzada, Miguel (Mikey) Calzada III, Greg Carrillo, Iliana Ortiz, Jeweliana Calzada, Savannah Calzada, Albert (Joonbug) Calzada, Tiffani Calzada (partner Caitlin Perez), Briana Almendarez, David Calzada, Jr., and Noah Calzada 4 Great Grandchildren Jeeneen Cruz, Jayden Hanes, Mauricio Franco, and Catalina Franco.
