Nancy A Emick

July 4, 1932 — October 12, 2014

Nancy Arlette Matthews Emick rose unto heaven on October 12, 2014. A native San Antonian, she was born on July 4, 1932 to Helen Kern and Lyman Mathews. She is survived by her children, Richard Emick and wife Bethany, Cherie Emick and James Emick, all of San Antonio, a sister Cathy Cole, husband Dayton of Boon, NC, brothers David Matthews, wife Barbara of Marble Falls, TX and Thomas Matthews, wife Kathy of Sherman, TX. She has two granddaughters and two great grandsons. Nancy graduated from Brackenridge High School and attended San Antonio College while raising her children then began her civil service career at Kelly Air Force Base. A resident of Hollywood park for 50 years, Nancy was always creative, brilliantly clever and a skilled artist. She loved all music and to see her dance was a real thrill. An avid gardener and lover of nature in all forms, she recued countless numbers of God’s creatures and gave to many animal rescue organizations. Although she was strikingly beautiful, Nancy is best known for her loving personality, and funny, clever sense of humor. The best Mom on the planet, a great homemaker, cook, seamstress and devoted to all her children.
The family would like to thank her lifelong friends Deana and Lyle Bird for their love and generosity, Rev. Fr. Peter McKenna for presiding over services and Mary Powell, mom’s caregiver, for years of love, dignity and respect. Much thanks to all of Mom’s many friends, words cannot describe the joy she felt in your company, your love and that you called her friend. It has been an honor to know her, feel her love and surely heaven is rejoicing. God bless you Fourth of July Lady…..baby, you’re a firecracker!
