It is with heavy hearts and sadness that we announce the passing of Nancy Louise (Schelper) Cox on Tuesday, July 29, 2024. She was 73. Born in San Antonio, Texas on July 2, 1951, she graduated from Highlands High School. She would later meet and marry her ex-husband, Hal Cox, and have an instant family with his two sons. She was also blessed with two beautiful daughters of her own. While running a household and raising four kids, she was also an avid volunteer and got her nursing degree. She went on to work in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and then pursued her master's degree in education. She started in the library before moving to the classroom, teaching across subjects and grade levels in Corpus Christi and Flour Bluff. She moved into administration, while at CCISD, and ultimately retired after serving as the principal in Runge, Texas. She loved teaching and all the kids that she taught. They also loved her.
She enjoyed reading romance novels and rewatching old musicals and John Wayne movies. She enjoyed cutting up and laughing with friends. She was an old movie buff and was a big fan of Chuck Norris. She was always happy being with friends and family. She was always eager to volunteer or help anyone. She took joy in her church, Mt. Olive Lutheran in Corpus Christi, and the kinship with all the members.
While Chuck Norris is not her brother—something she would tell her students—she is survived by her brother, Michael Schelper, her children, Carl Cox, Molly Cox, and Linda Cox, seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and three nieces. She is preceded in death by both her parents, Lawrence Schelper and Virginia Schelper, and her brother, Robert Schelper. The family asks for donations to the Alzheimer’s Association in her honor.
