Nancy Lou Peebles

February 14, 1934 — October 23, 2021

On October 23, 2021, Nancy Lou Rice Peebles (Nana) was called home to be with our Lord and Savior at the age of 87. She was a loving mother, grandmother and loyal friend with a deep religious faith and a steadfast dedication to the Catholic Church.

Nancy was preceded in death by her husband Everett Powell Peebles, her parents Maxwell Hume Rice and Harriet Grace Passwater Rice, as well as her brother Wesley Seymour Rice, and her sister Eileen Rice Zackula. She is survived by 3 sons: Tom Peebles and wife Sharon; Ken Peebles and wife Laura; and Dan Peebles and wife Tricia. Nancy also had 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

Nancy attended Wichita State University and became a respected Certified Tax Accountant and eventually opened her own general accounting business which she operated until her death. After misspeaking, she often said “I’m good with numbers, not words.” She was an Air Force wife and raised 3 sons traveling all over the world. Nana had a huge heart accompanied with a no-nonsense approach to parenting which was offered to many of her son’s friends who needed shelter and mentoring. Many of them still refer to her as Mom.

Nancy was a dedicated member of the Catholic Church and spent time as a parishioner at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, St. John Neumann Catholic Church, Holy Trinity Catholic Church and St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church. She was an active member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church for many years serving as Msgr. Robert Silverman’s assistant. She also spent time acting as the wedding coordinator, served on the altar guild, as well as the finance committee and was a proud member of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher. She made several trips to the Holy Land with her St. John Neumann family and friends.

Until her recent passing, Nancy still believed in Santa Claus as could be seen in the hundreds of mementos, photos and figurines that she displayed in her home year-round as well as the clothing and jewelry that she proudly wore starting the day after Thanksgiving.

A Rosary will be recited at 6:00 PM on Thursday, Nov 11th at St. John Neumann Catholic Church. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 AM on Friday, Nov 12th at St. John Neumann Catholic Church. A private interment will take place at Ft. Sam Houston on Nov 18th.

There will be a reception, including lunch, held after the funeral mass in the St. John Neumann Family Center. All are welcome and encouraged to come celebrate with us and honor Nancy through fellowship and remembrance.
