Nelva Maurine Perkins Reed

REED,NELVA - OBITUARY
NELVA MAURINE PERKINSREED,90, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014.
She was born in Hackberry, Tx Dec. 8, 1923, the daughter of George and Susie Perkins, pioneer
ranchers. She was a graduate of Bronte High School and worked as a manager at Western
Union in several offices throughout Texas.
In 1944 Nelva was married to Samuel Reed, Jr., a union which lasted over 69 years ending with
his death Nov. 20, 2013. Nelva was a devoted wife and a loving, caring motherto her three
sons. She was a homemaker, a member of the Baptist Church where she was active in WMU
and served on various committees, a den mother for Scouts, active in Eastern Star and always
supported her children in their educational endeavors.
Nelva was energetic, gregarious, fun, very hospitable and had a great wit and sense of humor.
She loved life and people. She and Sam enjoyed the outdoors and traveled extensively
throughout the United States including Mexico and Canada and a trip to Europe and China.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Sam, her parents, and a brother, Howard
Perkins. She is survived by her three sons: Samuel H Reed and wife, Judy of San Antonio;
Michael L Reed of Fort Worth; Larry K Reed and wife, Carol of Center Point; a brother, Leo
Perkins and wife, Lillian of Lampasas; sisters Gwendolyn Carlow of Kerrville and Sue Evelyn
Perkins of Ingram; five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives.
Visitation at 10:30 am on Wed., Jan 8 and Funeral Service at 11:00 am Shearer Hills Baptist
Church, 12615 San Pedro, San Antonio. Interment at Sunset Memorial Park.
