Herlinda Olivia Gutierrez Cavazos, beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother,
great-grandmother, and friend was born in Laredo, Texas on January 3, 1939, to Jose
Alejandro and Herlinda Vidaurri Gutierrez. She was the youngest of four children. As a
young girl, her passion was dancing. She excelled at various forms of dance including tap
and ballet and loved performing in front of people. She graduated from Ursuline Academy
in Laredo, Texas.
Before long, she met the 'love of her life' in Alejandro C. Cavazos and married on January
4, 1958. Her husband's career in the United States Air Force took them around the world!
Along the way, they were blessed with four children.
She made San Antonio, Texas her home after her husband's retirement from the Air
Force in 1975, after which she enjoyed a brief career at USAA as a Claims
Representative. She later enjoyed many years cherishing time with her children and
grandchildren, keeping an immaculate home, hosting countless family gatherings, and
baking her specialties.
She passionately and dutifully cared for her husband through Alzheimer's disease until his
death in 2009. They were married 51 years. Olivia was called to her eternal rest on
September 13, 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her
older sister, Graciela (Chela) Gunnoe. She is survived by her sister, Nora York of Laredo,
Texas, her brother, Alejandro (Jr.) Gutierrez and his wife Lucy of San Antonio, Texas, and
her four children: Eddie Cavazos and his wife Laura, Maria Russell and her husband David,
Alex Cavazos and his wife Arta, and Patti Kratz and her husband Danny. She is also
survived by her nine adoring grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, loving nieces and
nephews, dear cousins, and special friends.
Her generous, loving, and caring spirit was her greatest gift to all and will be her truest
legacy. She will be treasured forever in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
