Fleming Mrs. Marie Patricia A. Fleming, known as Pat, beloved mother and wife, departed this life on Saturday, August 2, 2008 in San Antonio, at the age of 81. Pat was born Audrey Marie Patricia Arendt in Nashville, Tennessee, May 5, 1927. She was preceded in death by her husband, Josiah, and son, Keivin. She leaves behind her five other children: Josh, Jerry, Lewis, Nelson and Therese, plus three grandchildren: Shea, Jared and Jennifer Rose. Pat graduated cum laude with B.S.and M.S. degrees in biology from Peabody College of Vanderbilt University. She was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. She began her teaching career as a professor of biology at Lander University in Greenwood, S.C. where she met and taught her future husband, Josiah Bryant Fleming, a World War II veteran. He was attending the university on the G.I. Bill after service in both Europe and the Pacific. Joe and Pat moved to San Antonio after he was recalled to service during the Korean War. She taught at La Salle High School for several years before moving to Royalgate Elementary to teach in the same school her children attended. She worked for South San ISD for twenty-seven years until her retirement, finishing her career at Antonio Olivares Elementary School. In addition to teaching and taking care of her family, Pat was an active member in the Catholic Church Sodalities at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church and the Lackland A.F.B. diocese. She will be sorely missed by those whose life she touched and inspired. SERVICES: Visitation will be on Wednesday, August 6, STARTING AT 6 P.M. WITH A ROSARY AT 6:30 P.M.at the Puente and Sons Funeral Chapel at 3520 S. Flores. THE FUNERAL MASS WILL BE HELD AT 9:30 A.M., THURSDAY, AUGUST 7, AT ST. VINCENT DE PAUL CATHOLIC CHURCH AT 4222 SW LOOP 410. Pat will be buried with her husband, Josiah, at the Fort Sam Houston cemetery at 11:30.
