Peter Howard Raimondo Jr.

Peter Howard Raimondo Jr. was born on March 26, 1949 to Peter and Perina (Mickey) Raimondo. He grew up in Philadelphia with brother Natale, sister Rosalie, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. On graduating from high school, Peter proudly attended the University of Maryland, where he explored music, social justice, and spirituality (and still found a few moments to study). These lifelong passions led him from civil rights organizing to the Woodstock music festival, and to homes in Kansas City, Des Moines, Los Angeles, and San Antonio. A passionate conversationalist, Peter loved a strong cup of coffee, a good pipe, a book of contemporary poetry, and the companionship of numerous cherished pets. Many weekends were spent exploring art galleries, craft festivals, antique stores, and book shops. At home, he could often be found listening to music or tending his cactus garden. Peter worked in information technology for most of his career, serving as a junior-high computer teacher at Harlandale Middle School in the years before his retirement. He was the proud father of Luke and gladly welcomed his wife Astrid to the family; through their sons Lucas and Santino, he discovered an unexpected joy in being a grandfather. Peter had a long and winding journey to true love, finally discovering great happiness with his beloved wife Jan. Family bonds were an important part of their love story, and they happily watched Jan’s sons Sean and Colin Stevens meet wives Hitomi and Anawila. Sean’s daughters Maya, Lana, and Hana, and Colin’s children Nathaniel, Leilani, and Makani further enriched their lives as grandparents. Peter meditated daily and, after exploring a range of spiritual practices, found his way back to his roots in Catholicism. He and Jan were dedicated parishioners at St. Peter Prince of the Apostles Catholic Church, a community that was especially supportive as he battled pulmonary fibrosis in recent years. Peter died on December 18, 2019 in San Antonio. He will be missed dearly by his entire family, including sister-in-law Carol Raimondo and nephew Anthony Raimondo and nieces Meredith Raimondo and Kari Starr. A Rosary will be held in Peter’s memory at 11:00AM on Friday January 3rd, 2020 and a Funeral Mass at 11:00AM on Saturday January 4th, 2020 both at St. Peter Prince of the Apostles Catholic Church. The family will accept flowers or donations to the American Lung Association in Peter’s memory.
