Rayburn Earl Halbert September 30, 1950 - January 27, 2025 Rayburn Earl Halbert, age 74, of Waco, Texas, passed away January 27, 2025, and is now at peace with his Lord. A graveside service to honor his life will be held 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at Rosemound Cemetery, 3201 S. 12th Street, Waco, Texas, with Pastor David Cozart officiating. At a young age, Rayburn enjoyed spending time with his cousins, particularly Lynette, as they played outside and enjoyed a rural upbringing. He had a love for cars as soon as he started to drive at the age of 14. Drag racing with friends, listening to bands like the Beatles and Monkeys, and shortly working at the Textile Mills with his parents were teenage pastimes. After graduating from Connally High School in 1968, Rayburn continued his studies at McLennan Community College and worked for Beherns Drug Company before becoming a firefighter. Rayburn proudly served as a Waco Firefighter for 28 years until his retirement February 28, 2000. During his time in the fire service, Rayburn formed lasting bonds with his colleagues, his stories of their time together often reflected the combination of hard work and practical jokes shared during their demanding 24-hour shifts. In retirement, Rayburn found purpose helping his wife, Patti, with the family formalwear dress shop, and the two looked forward to traveling together when they could. He also enjoyed driving the latest cars on dealer trades, a fitting continuation of his lifelong love of vehicles. His strength and valor as a firefighter for so many years was portrayed in multiple ways. While he seemed particular about what he wanted, underneath it all, he really loved his family and enjoyed being showered with attention. Rayburn's family will remember him as someone who had a fondness for travel, especially to Disney World, where he relished the moments spent at the parks and the Grand Floridian Resort. His love for cars, western shows, James Bond movies and eating at Texas Road House remained a constant throughout his life. He was preceded in death by his father, Jesse Halbert, mother, Willie Halbert, and wife Patti Halbert.
He is survived by his children, Jim Halbert and wife Alicia, Mynda Residori, Rebecca Chapman and husband William, Patti's mother, Mary Farney, seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
