Remigia (Mickie) Perez Cantu was called home to be with the Lord on October 8, 2023 at the age of 86. Remigia was born on September 24,1937 in Normanna, Texas to Jose S. Perez Sr. and Remigia A. Perez. She graduated from Sidney Lanier High School, San Antonio, Texas in 1956 and married Americo R. Cantu August 31,1957. She became an Army wife, traveling around the world to: Nurnberg, Germany, Darmstadt, Germany, El Paso, Texas, Akron, Ohio, Columbus, Georgia and San Antonio, Texas. She was very involved with the NCO Wives Club, Catholic church activities, and she worked as a hairdresser at JC Penney’s, as a cashier at Exxon, and worked as a paraprofessional at Garner Middle School in Northeast ISD. She was an avid gardener (with a green thumb), who loved to have many plants around her house.

She is preceded in death by her ex-husband of 25 years, Americo R. Cantu, her parents: Jose S. and Remigia A. Perez, her brothers: Santos Perez, Dario Perez, Mariano Perez, Rosendo Perez, Alberto Perez, and Jose Perez Jr., and her sisters: Beatriz Solorzano and Luisa Rodriguez.

Surviving family members are son: Americo R. Cantu Jr. (Fiancé Lisa), daughters: Tammy Rose Cantu (Jerry), Marianne Alvarado (Fidel), grandchildren: Christopher R. Cantu, David J. Cantu, SSG. Nicolas J. Cantu (Cinthya), Angela M. Cantu, Fidel M. Alvarado III, Carlos A. Alvarado, Emma A. Mendoza, Leah A. Mendoza. Great grandchildren: Michael D. Cantu, Isabella G. Cantu, Leila G. Cantu, Malia M. Cantu Velez. Many Nieces and Nephews around the United States: Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Massachusetts, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Washington.

Visitation will be held at Puente and Sons Funeral Home on October 17, 2023 at 3pm with a Rosary Service at 6:30. Funeral Mass will be on October 18, 2023 at 10 am at St. Helena Catholic Church, with burial immediately following at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Pall bearers are Christopher R. Cantu, Fidel Alvardo Jr., Fidel M. Alvarado III, Carlos A. Alvarado, Michael D. Cantu, Alexander Alvarado.
