Reynaldo Casarez Juarez, known as "Ray," passed away at the age of 74 and was from Aspermont, Texas. He leaves behind a legacy of love, hard work, and devotion to family and faith.
Ray is survived by his children: Tony Garcia, Sandra (Jake) Fortenberry, and Jonathan (Lauren) Juarez; grandchildren: Dean (Cheyanne) Garcia, Drey (Chelsea) Garcia, Olivia Fortenberry, and Emilia Fortenberry; great-grandchildren: Ashlynn Benoit, Henry Garcia, and Sammie Garcia; former spouse: Sonja Juarez; and siblings: Ruben Juarez, Edward Juarez, and Elida Thorne, along with several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Panfilo and Alvina Juarez; siblings: Israel Juarez, Elvira Juarez, Rebecca Herrera, and Selia Juarez; and granddaughter, Damonique Garcia.
Born in Moore, Texas, Ray grew up in Natalia, Texas, surrounded by an extended family. From a young age, he learned the value of hard work, picking vegetables alongside his family. At 17, he began his journey in the trucking industry, driving delivery trucks to San Antonio to transport produce. In the early 1980s, he ventured into the trucking business himself, owning several trucks over the years. Ray was a skilled truck driver, mechanic, welder, and foreman, dedicating 30 years of his life to Kiowa Peak Industries. Known by his CB radio handle, "Scarecrow," Ray was a familiar presence on the roadways.
While Ray found enjoyment in fishing, hunting, and trucking, his greatest joy came from watching his children and grandchildren pursue their passions, whether it was fishing or playing softball. His deep love for his family was evident in every moment spent together.
Ray's faith was a cornerstone of his life. He gave his heart to the Lord at a young age, symbolized by his baptism in a river as a teenager. Later in life, he reaffirmed his commitment to God through baptism at the Merkel Church of Christ. Even in the face of health challenges, Ray's faith remained steadfast. Ray had a series of strokes from August to November of 2023 and had a history of heart issues. He had been living with his daughter in San Antonio since August and attending the Northwest Church of Christ.
Psalm 73:26 encapsulates Ray's unwavering trust in God: "My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever."
Ray will be dearly missed by all who knew him, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of those he loved and inspired. May he rest in eternal peace, knowing he was deeply cherished and admired.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Northwest Church of Christ Youth and Children's Ministry, a cause close to Ray's heart and where his grandchildren are actively involved. <https://nwchurch.us/giving/>
