Richard A Pollock

April 16, 1942 — September 26, 2017

Richard Allen Pollock, “Dickie” born April 16, 1942 is now golfing with the angels. He passed away September 26, 2017.

Dickie enjoyed an idyllic San Antonio childhood with his three sisters and younger brother. His cousins lived nearby and always there was a baseball game going on or some other impromptu, outdoor competition. It was in his youth that his Catholic faith and love of competition took hold.
In 1960, Dickie graduated from St. Gerard High School and while there played football, basketball, track and baseball. He excelled in all of them and later attended the University of Houston on a football scholarship. In 1962, he married his high school sweetheart, Beverly (Bueche). In 1966 he was drafted by the Army, and he and Beverly moved to Germany for two years while Dickie served his country. Shortly after returning, their son Bruce was born. Later, he earned an Associate’s degree from SAC in Business Management.

Dickie worked for over forty years at Guess Towel Company. Starting as a “route man” delivering uniforms, he worked his way up to supervisory positions. In his spare time, he enjoyed golfing regularly with his buddies and bowling in several leagues. In 1980 he was named state champion in the men’s division bowling tournament. Fishing in Rockport was another favorite pastime.
Dickie is survived by his wife, Beverly, son, Bruce and his wife Sharon, sisters Patsy (Ron) Glazener, Sharon (Stan) Bonewitz, and Linda Vanlandingham , and brother, Gerard “PeeWee” (Jeanette) Pollock, and grandchildren Justin and Laura Pollock, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dickie had many titles- husband, father, brother, uncle, cousin, friend and beloved PoPo. He was always up to something and it wasn’t always good, but it was always fun. He had the uncanny ability to make you feel loved and important. Truth is, he was the life of the party, and he leaves a hole that will be impossible to fill.

Help us say good bye to Dickie on Friday, October 6, 2017 at 10AM, St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 2829 Ackerman Rd. Kirby, TX. In lieu of flowers, consider making a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association.
