Richard John Francis, age 93, of San Antonio, Texas, died on Sunday, December 25, 2011. He served in World War II in the 11th Cavalry, served in the Air Force Reserves and was a retired civil servant, a member of the Friday Squad of the Fort Sam Houston Memorial Detachment (MSD) Honor Guard and a long time member of First Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Millie; sisters brothers Art, Al, Gladys, Edna and Vi, and parents Arthur Alice Francis. Survivors include all his six children and their spouses: Mike Mary McDowell, Kathy David Walden, Pat Skip Good, Pam Jerry Benson, Janet Dirmeyer; and John Diana Francis. He also leaves behind twelve grandchildren: Becky Aly, Tammy Rice, Sarah McDowell, Mark McDowell, Murray Good, Ashley Arp, Jerry Joe Benson, Nick Benson, Tim Dirmeyer, Mandy Smith, Daniel Dirmeyer, and David Dirmeyer, Amanda Miranda, Christina Miranda, and Danielle Lopez. Blessed with eleven great grandchildren who will also miss him are: Killian McDowell, Brooke Aly, Jenny Good, William Good, Maya Arp, Grace Dirmeyer, Emma Dirmeyer, Christian Dirmeyer, Ethan Dirmeyer, Austin Dirmeyer, and Max Smith. Also surviving are two nieces, Elaine Hale and Jackie Coxon; and four nephews, Art Francis, Bob Francis, Ronnie Francis and Bob Newell. Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery Friday, January 6, 2011 at 2:30 P.M. Military Honors will be provided by the Friday Squad of Memorial Services Detachment (MSD) Honor Guard, of which he was a lifetime member.
