Robert Dale PoPo Robinson, Sr. passed away into the arms of his Savior on October 3, 2012. Robert was born September 18, 1940 in Enid, Oklahoma to William Robert Robinson and Pearl Leona Robinson. Roberts father was killed in WW2 and after his mother remarried the family relocated in the San Antonio area. Robert attended Harlandale High School and mid-term of his senior year he enlisted into the US Navy where he served 4 years active duty and 2 years reserve service. On December 21, 1960 he married Martha M. Whitlock and they have been together for the past 51 years. Three children were born of their marriage, Desiree L Bernhardt, Robert D. Robinson Jr. and Charles N. Robinson. After completing his military service, Robert became a Barber and for many years he and his brother, Chuck, barbered together at Johnnys Barber Shop on the southside of San Antonio. In 1970, Robert joined the San Antonio Fire Department. During his career with the Fire Department he drove for Chief Arthur Herrera for 2 years. Upon being promoted to Engineer, he was then promoted to the San Antonio Arson Bureau. As an Arson Investigator he had to complete the San Antonio Police Department training to become a law enforcement officer. During his 26 years as an Arson Investigator, he completed the FBI Academy in Quantico, VA., along with training at many other schools. Robert was proud of his accomplishments and proud to have served his community. After Roberts retirement in 1999 (due to a brain tumor) from the San Antonio Fire Department, he was happiest when he was watching old John Wayne movies or spending time at the family ranch hunting with his son-in-law, Rick or teaching his grandchildren to fish. Many wonderful memories were made at the ranch for his family to cherish forever. Robert was a simple, quiet man who loved his family, loved his jeans, western shirt and boots. He loved country music (especially Ray Price), sitting on the front porch with his dog, Daisy, being at the farm with his cows, and was always ready to eat a very rare steak. Before his illness, he loved to travel with his wife, Martha to places all over the world and he was always ready to go on a cruise. Robert is preceded in death by his son, Charles Chuck Robinson, mother, Pearl Leona Robinson, father, William Robert Robinson, Stepfather, Charles A. Robinson Sr. and brother, Charles A. Robinson Jr. Robert is survived by his wife, Martha M. Robinson, daughter, Desiree L. Bernhardt (spouse Frederick Bernhardt), Robert D. Robinson Jr. (partner, Buren Leitch), Grandchildren; Randi R. Elrod, Callie A. Robinson, Frederick C. Bernhardt Jr. (spouse Amanda), Michael K. Bernhardt and Lisa M. Bernhardt and Great Grandchildren, Conner and Carson Bernhardt. The Robinson family deeply appreciates all the love and support from family members and friends that has been shown to us during this very difficult time. Your kindness and love will never be forgotten. We would also like to thank Dr. Vernon Benson and his staff for always being there in our time of need. A very special thank you would like to be extended to Odyssey Hospice House for the love and care you showed our love one during his time of need and to the love and care you also extended to his family. We would also like to acknowledge and thank the San Antonio Fire Department and San Antonio Police Department for helping our family during these times of need. You will be missed, Robert, by your family, but we are comforted knowing you have loved ones who now surround you in your Heavenly Home.
