Robert W. Burge passed from this life on February 18, 2023 at the age of 81. Robert was born to Editha and Ralph Burge in Washington D.C. on November 26, 1941. Robert lived in Arlington, Virginia throughout his childhood. Robert is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Rosemary Grayson, his wife Helen Burge, and his stepson Johnny Wells. Robert is survived by his brother Jon Burge and his Sons Robert (Bobby) and Roy Burge, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Robert moved to San Antonio around 1967 to work on the World's Fair as an iron worker and planted his roots in San Antonio and raised his family. Robert was an Army veteran and served during the Vietnam War. Robert worked as an Iron Worker for nearly 30 years, and after retiring, he worked in his garage until his last day as a custom fabricator and sheet-metal specialist. Robert loved hill-climb racing and racing anything on dirt tracks including flat-track motorcycles, quarter-midgets, and graduating all the way up to racing modified stock cars until the age of 69! Robert was a recognized name in the local hot rod community and known throughout the stock car racing community. Robert loved traveling the country to attend swap meets where he accumulated most of his highly collectable antique motorcycles. Robert had expert knowledge of American and British antique motorcycles and cars. Robert was a staple in the hot rod and race car community and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
