Robert William McGrath, Jr. went home with his Creator at 5:18pm on 02.24.2013. He was surrounded by family and love and all of the prayers for comfort that the world has to offer. His three children, Colin Andrew (25), Isabelle Anne (22), and Caitlin Elizabeth (19), all from San Antonio, Texas, shared his life and lovingly want everyone to know that Robert was steadfast in his character and that he “never let them down”. He is the oldest son of surviving parents, Jacqueline MacDonald McGrath and Robert William McGrath, Sr. of Dallas, Texas, and is the eldest of five siblings. He is survived by his sisters, Nancy McGrath Findley and her husband Mack of Mason, Ohio and Kate McGrath Gray and her husband Derek of Edinburgh, Scotland, and his brothers Thomas J. McGrath and his wife Tanya, of Frisco, Texas and Terry M. McGrath of Lewisville, Texas. He leaves the world a better place through his children and his nieces and nephews: Megan, Caroline, Alec, Lauren, Morgan, Tyler, and Maggie and his grandson, Aidan William McGrath. Robert was born in Plainfield NJ. He attended Richardson HS in North Texas and graduated from Trinity University in 1984. He worked extensively in theatre on the local, regional, and national stage as a lighting and set designer, stage director, and actor. A modern renaissance man, he loved learning about everything and was able to repair anything. His skill at being a multi-reader finds us with several books in each room of the house. His sense of humor is cutting and he never hesitated to point out the irony of any situation. He spent the last 15 years working dedicatedly at the San Antonio Lighthouse for the Blind and was proud of the mission that he lived in service to those who are vision impaired. He is the devoted husband of 26 years to his loving wife, Nina Florence McGrath. We are grateful for your prayers and support. Please continue them for us as we mourn his leaving and rejoice the life he shared with us.
Flowers, cards and donations to his medical fund may be sent to Puente and Sons Funeral Chapels.
