Roger Bruce Hunt

Roger Bruce Hunt, 79, native of Eagle Grove, IA, went to his rest on September 15, 2021, in San Antonio, Texas.

Roger was born in Eagle Grove, IA, to Chester Allen Hunt Sr. and Gladys Johnson Oye.



He lived in San Marcos, TX since 2001 and is survived by his beloved wife Valerianna Gonzales Hunt of 31 years. He grew up in Eagle Grove, Iowa graduating from Oak Park Academy, Nevada, IA, He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.



He raised his family in Iowa; owned and operated his own construction business, Hunt Drywall in Ames, IA. where he lived and worked for many years. He later became a successful insurance agent and financial planner until he retired in 2006.



He served with the Crime Stoppers of San Marcos, TX in 2016-17.



Roger never met a stranger attributing to his career and personal successes; possessing an unrivaled gift for conversing and making people feel they had his undivided attention. He cared about doing the right thing and was a man of many talents and interests. A masterful storyteller with a joke for every occasion. Roger loved nature and marveled at God’s creations in his own yard. He was an avid horseman and his many hobbies included carving, any type of home improvements, playing guitar, and restoring antique furniture to name a few.



Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers Chester Hunt Jr. and Jerry Hunt; sisters Rosalie Mellor, Maxine Matacio, Phyllis Howell, and stepson Joseph Zuniga.



Survivors include his daughters, Tamara Hunt and Laurel Metzko (Bob); son, Barclay Hunt (Diane); stepson Gabriel Zuniga. Grandchildren are, Logan Dirksen (Marilyn), Madison and Samuel Hunt; step-granddaughters Jaclyn Trevino, and Jennie Fonseca, step-grandson Kris Riffle; great-granddaughter, Faith Dirksen, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

We will miss our beloved father, husband, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend Roger.
