Rose was the middle child in a large and boisterous and loving family- four boys and four girls. There were two sets of twins! Her brothers: Joe (deceased), Sergio, Edward and Fernando (Darlene) and her sisters: Maria Belen (Ben), Maria Carmen (deceased) and Teresita. Her dad served our country in the Army, so they moved around the USA a lot. Her mom, Maria Jesus Valenzuela Prendez (deceased), was from Mexico, so Rose grew up speaking both Spanish and English. Rose attended high school in San Antonio at Sam Houston High School.
When she was just eight years old Rose’s dad died, so her mother worked extra hard to care for all the kids. Her mom worked in the laundry at a nursing home and in the cafeteria at their elementary school. The family loved camping and went to Garner State Park frequently and made many fond memories there swimming, fishing, playing, cooking out and just having wonderful family times together. The family was able to visit her Nina (like a grandmother to her) in Mexico and her Tio and Tia (both deceased) and her cousins in Arizona a few times and those were precious times with loved ones. Rose also loved animals and grew up with cats, chickens, ducks, rabbits and even had her own pony named Pinto that she enjoyed riding around the neighborhood! She also loved the outdoors and especially the beach and had many fun and exciting adventures snorkeling, jet skiing, boating and parasailing at the beach in Cancun.
Rose worked almost two decades in Houston doing administrative work for Exxon. She then moved to work at Carrier Air Conditioning in customer service. She transferred with Carrier to San Antonio to be closer to her ailing mother and loved caring for her.
Special people in Rose’s life included her brothers and sisters, their spouses, her Tio and Tia, and oodles of nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews, and her best friend Frieda. Rose made many sweet friends at Timberhill Villa during the five years she lived there. They took such great care of her. She had a lovely apartment and really enjoyed the fellowship, especially the Mexican Bingo, Happy Hours, and Fiesta Parties…and the dancing! Rose never missed an opportunity to dance. She had a joyful spirit with lots of rhythm and loved to ‘Get the Party Started!!’
Rose loved the Lord’s Prayer and Psalm 23. These gave her peace in her last days, and this gives us comfort as we grieve the loss of our beloved sister, aunt and friend. And we thank Meridian Care Center for their compassionate care to Rose in her last six months.
In lieu of flowers please continue to pray for the entire family as they grieve.
