Samuel Howard Reed

Samuel Howard Reed, affectionately known as Sam, has been welcomed into God’s paradise by our Lord and Savior above on June 30th, 2022. Sam is proceeded in death by his soul mate: Judith Marie Reed, Father: Samuel Reed Jr, Mother: Nelva Reed, and brother: Larry Reed (survived by Carol Reed). He is survived by brother: Michael Lynn Reed; daughter: Theresa Marie Reed-Benitez (Richard Benitez) and son: Samuel Scott Reed (Monica Lerma-Reed) and two grandchildren Sophia Benitez and Simon Reed.

Sam, a civil servant his entire life, served in multiple public safety departments throughout Texas. Bexar County Sherriff’s Department, Woodland’s Fire Department, Federal Reserve Bank, City of San Antonio Code Compliance are just a few positions he held as an active public servant throughout his career. His selfless actions to help others in need would ALWAYS take precedent. Sam was a true entrepreneur, owning & operating multiple business’, most infamously San Antonio Fire & Safety. He provided for his family to ensure they lived a great life built on the foundation of Christianity.

Seeking wisdom and knowledge through bible study, Sam as a devoted Christian, would spread the Good News with everyone he encountered. An active participant for 50 years as a Free Mason, Sam enlightened our community and helped pave a way for many to find God in their own life. To a very large extent, Sam was a new day Paul to the Philippians. He would take many notes of bible verses and one that resounded to him was Philippians 1:12-14.

He had such an adventurous spirit in life. Rather it be spelunking caverns in the Hill Country, travel across country, diving lakes and oceans, testing the limits on a motorcycle, hunting, fishing, conversationalist to all, Sam lived life to the fullest while ensuring all activities began with prayer and a plan. His ability to ensure inclusiveness for all was most important.

He will be dearly missed but will always be remembered for his zeal for life. Dad you truly were, as our mom would say, “The kindest most gentle man in the world. “
