Sandra Jean Vantol Behnke, was the daughter of Leslie VanTol and Marjorie Crouse. She was born in Chicago, Illinois on November 27, 2017.She departed this Wednesday, November 1st, 2017 ...All Saints Day in San Antonio, Texas at the age of 78. She would have been 79 this month.
A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, November 5th at 6:30 pm at Puente and Sons 14315 Judson Rd San Antonio, TX 78233. The little chapel will be available from 12:00 pm through 8:00 pm Sunday for visitation. She will be buried in Grand Haven, Michigan alongside her parents.
On May 20, 1958, she married Richard Carl Behnke and to this union two sons and two daughters were born. Sandra is survived by her children Michael Behnke of Ft Lauderdale, Florida, Michelle Behnke of Austin, Texas, Julie Behnke of San Antonio, Texas and Tim Behnke (Rosilu) of Rancho Viejo, Texas. Grandchildren Brandon and Savannah Behnke and Sean, Ashton and Kiana Behnke. Sandra had one brother and two sisters. Larry Vantol (Kathy) of Madison Lake, Minnesota, Sharon Donath (Don) of Mooresville, Indiana and Bonnie Fowler of Anthem, Arizona and many nieces and nephews.
Sandra was raised in Grand Haven, Michigan where she attended high school and was active in many school activities, choir and social clubs. She was a camp counselor for the summers and went on to Saint Mary of the Wood’s College in Terre Haute, Indiana. She was studying nursing and loved science and medicine. At one time, considered being a nun.
Besides being a busy mother of 4 children as a stay at home mom (home engineer) with a husband who worked and travelled, she was an active church member, volunteer and involved at her children’s school. She always welcomed friends and neighbors and our home was where the children would gather for fun. She gave of herself lovingly and was called ‘Mom’ by more than her 4 children.
Sandra had been homeroom mother for all her children at some point, Boyscout Den Mother, taught Sunday school, helped clean the church at Our Lady of Assumption in Atlanta, sponsored Christmas gifts for needy children and worked with Meals on Wheels. She was a devoted member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church.
Professionally, she worked as a law office administrator in Coral Springs, Florida and as a telecommunication manager at MetroMedia and WorldCom in San Antonio, Texas until she retired.
She had many talents. She was a wonderful cook in which her specialty was homemade apple pie, konneflies (a german butter noodle) and loved to sing. She loved doing crossword puzzles, watching Wheel of Fortune, NCIS and the Turner Classic Movie network. She was a devoted sports fan to the San Antonio Spurs, Notre Dame Football and St Louis Cardinals. But her most favorite activity was spending time with her beloved grandchildren.
Sandra was a loving mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and a caring friend and neighbor. She lived her life with dignity, grace and humor. Those who had the pleasure of knowing her will miss her kind heart and joyful, generous spirit.
