Sandra Lawson Magallanes June 29, 1952 – September 21, 2023, beloved wife, devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and cherished sister returned home to her Heavenly Father on Thursday September 21, 2023, at the age of 71. She is reunited in heaven with her parents Dora and Aubrey Lawson, Sr. Sandra was born in San Antonio, Texas and graduated from Roosevelt high school in 1971. All of her 29-year working career was spent as a dedicated employee of downtown Baptist Hospital.
She will be deeply missed by her loving husband Gabriel L. Magallanes of 46 years. Sandra and Gabriel were married on May 21, 1976, in San Antonio, Texas. They lived and raised their family in San Antonio. Gabriel was a dedicated soldier in her two battles with cancer. He was by her side at every twist and turn life had to offer. They enjoyed morning coffee on the patio, camping, fishing at the beach, long motorcycle rides in the hill country and traveling all over together. He will greatly miss having “Honeybee” on the back of his motorcycle. She is described by her husband as the love of his life and
their love is eternal in his heart.
Sandra is survived by her two beautiful daughters Sabrina Rodriguez (Salome Rodriguez, Jr.) and Carissa Magallanes; Grandchildren: Blake Rodriguez, Trevor Rodriguez, Tyara Leija, Chayzton Leija, and Kingston Leija, Clarissa Rodriguez, Cristian Rodriguez, and Gabriel Rodriguez; and Great Grandchild Carson Rodriguez. She fiercely loved her two children, her grandchildren and great grandson. She joyfully and willingly made many sacrifices for her family over the years and always put their needs above her own. Nothing could surpass the love she had for her family. They were perfect in her eyes and were her pride and joy.
Sandra was the second in a family of four children: sisters Debra Leal (Samuel Leal), April Hutzler (Jeff Hutzler) and brother Aubrey Lawson, Jr. She whole-heartedly loved her siblings. She had many cherished nieces and nephews: Krystal Perez (Aaron Solis), Addison Hutzler, Ella Hutzler, Eric Valadez, Adriana Valadez, Laura Magallanes, Anna Alvarado. She is preceded in death by her in-laws Belia and Leonard B. Magallanes.
Sandra was a friend to all, and we would be amiss not to mention her friend of 60 years Monika Taylor Elder. Once Sandra loved you, you were in her heart forever until her last breath. We will all miss her dearly, but she is now rejoicing in heaven.
A special thanks to Abundant Hospice for their care and help during her last days.
