Sonja Lee Parker Rumsey departed to be with God on Thursday, April 11, 2013, at the age of 74, in San Antonio, TX. She was born at Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC) in San Antonio, TX. Sonja had a remarkable 52 year career in Civil Service, GS1 to GS-12. She worked as Deputy Chief of the Foreign Student and Visitor Support Division at the Academy of Health Sciences and retired as International Medical Training Coordinator. Afterwards, she worked for the Army War College. She also worked at Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA), as a consultant. Sonja is survived by her loving son Bob and wife Margarethe Rumsey; daughter Susan Smith; son Kevin Rumsey; daughter Shanna Fielder, and Tracey Rumsey. She is also survived by her pride and joy, 11 grandchildren; Michael, Joshua, Cory, Daniel, Sheri, Stormi, Maddi, Kasey, Megan, Jake, Sam, and 4 great-grandchildren: Zoey, Marcus, Johnny, and Gatlyn.
Cemetery:
Funeral Services, closed casket, will be held outside on April 26, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. at Wetmore Community Cemetery (San Antonio, TX on Higgins Rd., near the intersection with Stahl Rd). In lieu of flowers, Sonja requested donations be made to the American Cancer Society. She will be dearly missed by her friends and family.
