Stephen Harter Lawson, born on September 13, 1945, in Portsmith Virginia, passed away on August 28, 2024 in Universal City, Texas. He is remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and, whose life reflected his unwavering commitment to his country and his loved ones.

Stephen was a proud Vietnam Veteran, having served in the United States Army as an aircraft mechanic specialist from 1966 through 1968. His hard work ethic and dedication did not go unnoticed, as he was awarded the prestigious Bronze Star for his service. He cherished the values instilled in him during his military career and carried them through to every aspect of his life.

A graduate of the Churchland school system and Chowan College, Stephen displayed an intrinsic desire to learn and grow. He developed a wide range of skills that included woodworking and home repairs, where he paid meticulous attention to detail. Family and friends often sought out his help, as he always willingly lend a hand to those in need.

In his personal life, Stephen found joy in reconnecting with long-time high school buddies this past year, reminiscing about shared experiences and cherished memories. The past year was particularly special, as he enjoyed a family trip to Post Falls, Idaho, where laughter and bonding moments were plentiful.

Stephen’s personality shone through in his love for leisure activities. He took pleasure in watching and recording television series and movies, while also being an avid football fan. His spirit was supportive, and one could frequently find him engaged in watching the Little League World Series, cheering on the young talents with fervor.

He fought bravely against small cell lung cancer and pulmonary fibrosis in his final years, embodying resilience and determination throughout his battles. His refusal to give up was due to knowing and having a personal relationship with his Lord Jesus Christ.

Stephen leaves behind a loving family who will carry his memory forward. He is survived by his wife, Camila C. Lawson, with whom he shared 27 wonderful years; sons Robert Tuan Lawson (Lorena) and Kim Lee Lawson; daughter Tonya T. Lawson Forness – Hein (Donald); step-son Elvis Macapagal; step-daughters LaLaine Macapagal and Maria Cristina Macapagal – Ong; and sisters Venita Rae Lawson – Barry and Virginia Mae Lawson – Bishop. His legacy continues through his grandchildren Matthew, Jacob, Sarai, Aaron, Caleb, Luke, Liah, and Marissa; great-grandchildren Brennan, Kane, Isaiah, Emmett, Blake, Kenlie, Amelia, Brielle, Kylie, Elizabeth, and Auburn; nephews Troy, Brian, Robin, and Steven; nieces Diana and Michele; and the mother of his children, Sa T. Lawson – Knudson.

Stephen Harter Lawson is preceded in death by his parents Gene Carriker Lawson and Nora Astena Harter - Lawson, his brother William Francis Lawson, and his sister Gypsy Gene Lawson – Reinking. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him and his spirit will forever live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
