Susan Diane Russo

On April 2, 2022, the soul of Susan Diane Russo returned to God.
Susan was born on October 13, 1949, to George and Mildred Crutchfield, joining her older sister Belinda Gail. Hers was a military family living at various Air Force bases including in Nebraska, Massachusetts, Michigan, Japan, Okinawa, and Florida. She met her surviving husband Robert (Bob) Russo in Orlando, Florida when she was a senior at Edgewater High School and he a freshman at the University of Florida. They were at first just friends, but that friendship blossomed, and they married on December 22, 1969 in Houston, Texas. She became an Air Force wife and then a law school wife, and bore two sons, Anthony Robert and Nathan Christopher. Susan finished her undergraduate degree at Pan American University in Brownsville, Texas, and then obtained a master’s degree in psychology at Trinity University after moving to San Antonio. After graduating Susan worked as a family counselor and a substance abuse counselor as well as performing psychological assessments of emergency room patients.
People from all walks of life were drawn to her, somehow sensing her compassion, understanding, intelligence, and warmth before they even came to know her. Her devotion to God and family served as a foundation for her love of the natural world and her commitment to its preservation for others. Her friends are many, and they treasure her. She was kind, loving and relentless in her desire to help others become the best human beings they could be, including her husband and two sons.
She loved deeply, and in return was loved by many.
Her marriage lasted just over 52 years, in no small part due to her unwavering commitment to her family. That was her crowning glory, and for that her family will be forever grateful.
Susan is survived by her husband, her two sons, her daughter-in-law Paola, her two grandsons Lucas Mattias and Nathan Corazon, her mother, her sister, several brothers-in-law and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She is and will always be loved and missed by all those who knew her.
