Sylvia Pryor

September 16, 1951 — March 21, 2025

Sylvia Ricondo Pryor, born on September 16, 1951, in San Antonio, Texas, departed this world on March 21, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, kindness, and unforgettable memories. Sylvia was a beloved figure, known for her vibrant personality as a lover of life and her generous spirit. She spent over 30 years as an educator and librarian with the San Antonio Independent School District (SAISD), impacting countless students and colleagues with her deep passion for literature and learning.

In addition to her professional accomplishments, Sylvia was cherished as a fantastic cook known for just a few of her signature dishes like carne guisada and brisket and wonderful peanut brittle and pralines. An excellent hostess she found the most joy from bringing family and friends together around her table for delicious meals and joyous celebrations. Her love for life extended well beyond the kitchen; she was an avid astronomer and photographer, often found gazing at the stars or capturing moments through her lens and well as a collector of globes and maps. A dedicated supporter of the San Antonio Spurs, she found great joy in cheering for her favorite team.

Sylvia's family included her beloved sister, Paula R. Weatherspoon and brother Robert Green who, along with her many nieces and nephews, will carry forward cherished memories of Sylvia's bright spirit. She was preceded in death by her husband James Lee Pryor III, parents Manuel and Guadalupe Ricondo, and her siblings Delores Garcia Padro, Angie Garcia Medina, Manuel Ricondo Jr. and Nelda R. Alcala.
