Born on September 16, 1951, in San Antonio, Texas, Sylvia Ricondo Pryor passed away on March 21, 2025, leaving behind a lasting legacy of warmth, generosity, and cherished memories. Known for her vibrant personality and love of life, Sylvia's spirit touched everyone who knew her.
Sylvia dedicated over 30 years to education as a teacher's aide and librarian with the San Antonio Independent School District (SAISD), inspiring countless students and colleagues with her passion for literature and learning. Beyond her professional achievements, she was a talented cook, renowned for her signature dishes like carne guisada, brisket, and her delectable peanut brittle and pralines. As a gracious hostess, she found the greatest joy in bringing family and friends together, creating lasting memories around her table filled with delicious food and laughter.
Her love of life extended well beyond the kitchen. Sylvia was an avid astronomer and photographer, often gazing at the stars or capturing the beauty of the world through her lens. A passionate collector of globes and maps, she found wonder in the world around her. Sylvia was also a devoted supporter of the San Antonio Spurs, never missing an opportunity to cheer for her favorite team.
Sylvia is survived by her beloved sister, Paula R. Witherspoon, and her brother, Robert Green, along with many nieces and nephews who will carry her memory forward. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Lee Pryor III, her parents, Manuel and Guadalupe Ricondo, and her siblings, Dolores Garcia Padro, Angie Garcia Medina, Manuel Ricondo Jr., and Nelda R. Alcala.
A celebration of Sylvia's life will be held on April 5, 2025, at Puente & Sons Funeral Chapels, South, located at 3520 South Flores Street in San Antonio, Texas. The service will begin at 12:30 PM, followed by a prayer service at 1:00 PM, concluding at 2:00 PM. Family and friends will gather to honor Sylvia's memory, reflecting on a life filled with joy, love, and laughter.
