Tamara Noelle Hess Maestas flew home to her heavenly Father on June 26, 2017 in San Antonio at the age of 32 after a 15 month battle with colon cancer.
Tammy is survived by her husband Michael Maestas; her parents Bob and Kathy Hess; her sister Sharon (and David) Zona, her brother Doug (and Jenn) Hess, and her nephew and godson James Zona. She also leaves her paternal grandmother Millie Hess (and Terry) Grove, and loving aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Tammy was born on December 20, 1984 in New Brunswick, NJ. She graduated from Colorado State University with a Master’s of Science degree in Microbiology. She was a research scientist at Colorado State and then with the Naval Medical Research Unit in San Antonio, TX.
Tammy married Michael Maestas on December 10, 2016 and they were happy together; their time was cut short too soon.
Tammy loved Jesus and was an active member and volunteer at University United Methodist Church in San Antonio. Her passions included science, the outdoors, her family, and cooking.
A memorial service is scheduled for Friday July 7 at 10am with reception to follow, at University Methodist, 5084 De Zavala, San Antonio. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to these organizations in honor of Tammy:
