Thomas Ray Pearson, “Pop”, went on to play Backgammon with his maker on August 4th, 2023; he is expected to check back in sometime after his game. He left surrounded by love, loved ones, and listening to some traveling music, including Boz Scaggs’ LOAN ME A DIME. Pop is a San Antonio, Texas native, born May 18th, 1950, to Deloris and Buel Pearson. He made friends and found stories everywhere he went.
Pop was a proud Veteran of The US Navy and even prouder of his children. He was the proudest of the people his children have become. Pop loved to tell anyone all about them, all the time. He sincerely did not understand the concept of TMI.
His father, sister, second mother, and numerous loved ones have been waiting around to greet him and he is looking forward to catching up with everyone he has lost over the years. But he will be missed, tremendously, by his numerous children, grandchildren, his mother, friends, family and over thirty lovers.
Pop was a man of his word and inspired those around him with his integrity. He wore his hair long, and his bell bottom pants longer with gold Ray Ban aviator glasses, regardless of the decade. He appreciated being his own unique person. He was, however, often mistaken for Willie Nelson and having survived the 70’s, may have appreciated the free joint that could accompany the mix-up. On occasion he was mistaken for Chuck Norris, this was worrisome, as he did not know how to roundhouse kick with any proficiency.
Pop was the type of person who would literally give a stranger the clothes off his back, and he did this frequently. He loved to laugh and always had a story, usually involving his kids. He was a fighter like his father and a peace-loving hippie at heart who saw no future in growing up but couldn’t help growing old.
Instead of flowers or milk shakes, Pop encourages you to perform random acts of kindness for strangers. He would also encourage you to share outrageous stories and laugh. His body will be laid to rest near his dad and family at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio, TX. All are welcome, as Pop would say, “Keep it simple”.
