Vanessa Dawn Harris

Vanessa Dawn Harris, nee Shows, was born May 2, 1964. She died March 18, 2021 due to complications from cancer.

Vanessa was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter and sister. During the school year, she was a food-service worker in the La Vernia ISD middle school cafeteria. During her career there, she fed many children and came to know them personally. She enjoyed helping and being around children, and found her work in the cafeteria rewarding.
Vanessa enjoyed spending time with family and playing with her granddaughter, Penelope. She enjoyed the outdoors and sunshine. In healthier times, she played volleyball and walked before work each day. She visited her father each weekend and helped him with household chores.

Vanessa will be missed by many but especially by her husband, Vincent Harris, sons Vincent Edwin Harris and Jake Harris, and daughter, Amanda Harris. Vanessa is also survived by her father, Warner Edwin Shows, and sisters, Charysse Solorio and Deirdre Douglass. Her granddaughter, Penelope, at 18 months old, was the light of Vanessa’s life.

Vanessa’s family is planning a Celebration of Her Life and will notify family and friends with details.
